Services for Older Citizens’ home was completed in 1930 as a dormitory for nurses at Cottage Hospital, and a grand opening took place June 10, 1930. It was originally known as the Newberry House, recognizing Helen Newberry who donation funded the acquisition and construction.
In 2012, Henry Ford Medical Center – Cottage offered to give SOC a long-term lease on the former the Newberry House nurses’ residence for a nominal sum. Services for Older Citizens then embarked on an extensive reconstruction project, made possible by generous donations from hundreds of community residents, turning the former dormitory into a state-of-the-art center for senior activities and community events. In June 2013, Services for Older Citizens moved into the newly named John A. and Marlene L. Boll House.
Rooms at The John A. and Marlene L. Boll House are available to rent for private events and local community organizations. Call Services for Older Citizens at (313) 882-9600 or click here for further information.
