A Little History

Originally named "Seniors Onward for Change," SOC
began in 1978 as a group of concerned citizens creating services
that would help seniors remain in the community they knew and
loved. SOC's first programs were to help with nutrition and
home repair. These programs are still cornerstones of SOC's
work.
Over the years, SOC has resided in many locations - community
facilities, church basements, and empty classrooms. In 2001, SOC
moved to its current location at the Neighborhood Club in Grosse
Pointe.
From this location, 8,000 seniors are served by 17 staff members,
with the help of over 400 volunteers annually. Many volunteers
are seniors themselves. SOC offers countless opportunities for
neighbors to serve neighbors, regardless of age.
